St. Johns River fishing lodging in Palatka

Free ramps a few minutes away, trailer parking at the house, and beds for six.

If you are towing a boat to Palatka, the two questions are where to launch and where to park the trailer. The Palatka City Dock and Boat Ramp at 319 River Street is free, open 24 hours, and a few minutes’ walk from Hummingbird House, and the house’s paver driveway has room for the trailer, the truck, and your friends’ cars.

How is the fishing on the St. Johns at Palatka?

This stretch has hosted the Bassmaster Elite Series several times, with takeoffs from the city ramp and weigh-ins at Riverfront Park. Rick Clunn won here in 2016 and 2019, Cory Johnston in 2024, and Bill Lowen in February 2025. Regional Bass Fishing League tournaments have run out of Palatka in September 2025 and 2026, with a May 2027 event listed.

Bassmaster describes the largemouth spawn here as starting in November and peaking from late February through March. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission notes striped and sunshine bass schooling around bridge pilings from mid to late October, and black crappie, known locally as speckled perch, with the cooler weather. Our fishing and boating guide has the details.

Why Hummingbird House for a fishing trip?

  • Trailer parking at the house. The expansive paver driveway takes an RV, a boat trailer, and multiple vehicles, with room to turn around. In a historic downtown, that is rare.
  • The ramp is a short walk. Launch early, and bring the boat and trailer back to the house in the evening.
  • Sleeps six, with a king, a queen, and a daybed on the landing until a queen Murphy bed arrives, so a group of four anglers each gets a real bed.
  • A cook’s kitchen and an outdoor grill for whatever you bring back, and coffee ready before first light.
  • A washer and dryer on the porch, which matters by day three.

What about the rest of the group?

The porch is the best room in the house, the riverfront and downtown are walkable, Ravine Gardens is five minutes away, and St. Augustine is about 40 minutes east. Nobody has to spend the day on the water to enjoy the trip.
